 THE DAISY COLONY

Teddyashtonfamily.jpg

The Daisy Colony was Allen's way of getting people to work off the land. He found a large house in Carlton nr Blackpool with land and it was his utopian dream to have everyone self sufficient. It worked and was a sight seeing venture where people came from all over to sample the food and buy Allen's Teddy Ashton Annuals. The house was called Higham House and nearby was Higham Farm. Eventually there were pdroblems as they were all self taught and from an industrial town so the project was eventually abandened.

The postcard shows Allen Clarke (Teddy Ashton) in the centre and Eliza to his right and the workers outside the house.

'WILL YE COME'

This picture was sent to me by Clive Leyland who died last year but was an ardent Teddy Ashton fan. He sang Allen's Clarkepoems 's songs and especially 'The Gradely Prayer.' At the exhibition of Windmill Land in Lytham Heritage Centre, Clive sang 'Windmill Land.'

'He was a Gradely Mon.'

Allen Clarke front row knelt down with his beloved Eliza next to him and my father Teddy Clarke on his own at the back and my mother Gwendoline on the end of the front row to the right.

Enjoying a day out in Bolton with fellow rambling companions.
